“Pizza Tech” is a derogatory term that legitimate PC repair businesses use to describe low-priced, fly-by-night computer repair people who repair computers for just enough money to buy pizza and beer.
Their rates are extremely low and reflect their lack of technical qualifications, business registration and ethics. They see nothing wrong with using or installing pirated, illegal or unlicensed copies of Windows or computer programs and will offer to install them for a very low price or for free. So why beware of them?
Their lack of ethics and working for cash under-the-table aside, they can make a real mess of your PC and end up costing you far more than you bargained for. After they have finished with your computer, you may end up having to call a qualified technician to undo their handiwork, fix the original problem as it should have been the first time, and possibly recover your trashed data. One of my customers was charged more than the price of a brand new PC to repair her old computer – after a Pizza tech spent six hours working on it while his tag-along child ran unsupervised throughout her house!
Some Pizza Tech customers may find that their system will not pass Microsoft’s periodic validation checks, leaving them with a system or software they can no longer access without paying Microsoft to make it legal. And would you trust your personal data to the prying eyes of someone patently dishonest, with no morals or principles? Can you be confident that your computer will be free of password-stealing keyloggers, trojans and spyware after a Pizza Tech is done with it? Theft of credit card data and identities is rampant. One of my clients had $13,000 removed from his bank account without his knowledge or approval, so it’s not a hypothetical risk!
After returning from vacation last year, I received a call from one of my customers asking me to come and repair his computer, half-jokingly admonishing me to never go away and leave him alone like that again. In my absence, he had called someone else to fix a problem and swore he’d never to do so again. I said it can’t hurt to try another tech, to which he replied “Oh yes it can!” To reduce the risk of it happening again, I have added Remote Desktop Support services that enable me to fix most problems remotely and still enjoy a vacation once in a while.
How can you spot a Pizza Tech, other than by unbelievably-low prices/rates and offers of free or low-cost software? Ask if they are a registered business and charge taxes on repairs. All computer repair businesses in Ontario are required to collect PST and those with revenues over $30,000 are required to collect GST. Ask for their business registration number for verification. Will they give a receipt and provide proof of identity?
Do they have a website with their own domain name (e.g., businessname.com or .ca) and does it have their business street address? (A small claims court summons can’t be served to a P.O. Box!) Is their phone number in Canada411’s Reverse Number Lookup? If neither of the above, how do you expect to retrieve your computer or contact them in case of a problem or dispute? Do they have testimonials on their website by people whose names you can find in Canada411 or are they fictitious? Depending on the answers to the above, you will have to decide whether or not they are legitimate, qualified and trustworthy.
There is nothing wrong with shopping around for someone to repair your computer, just make sure he/she isn’t a Pizza Tech.

What is Data Destruction?

Data destruction is the process in which your data is completely erased from your media, be it a Hard Drive, DVD, or CD. Many people and even IT professionals have a large misconception of how to really erase all of your sensitive data for good, to make it completely unrecoverable.
When would I need to Erase my Data Securely?
It is a good idea to do this anytime you upgrade your hard drive, or go to toss away some CDs or DVDs, or even throw away your machine completely.
Why is it important to Destroy My Data?
How much data do you have on your business or personal PC that you want the world to be able to see if given the chance? Would you want people being able to see your online transactions, or sensitive business data? How would that affect you in the long and short term? Simply, if you can answer these above questions, then you should already have your answer. Your need for proper data destruction is just as, if not more important than your reasons for having it backed up, You cant afford to lose it.
What is the proper way to do it?
Did you know that the U.S. Government DOD, NSA, FBI can recover data up to 7 layers deep? 7 Layers deep meaning that even if you deleted and over wrote that data, it can still be recovered. Many IT professionals believe that simply re-formating a machine is enough to keep prying eyes away, and securely erase your data files. That is simply not true. The same technology that the Government uses to recover data from hard drives, is readily available to average every day users.
With that being said, The technology that the US Government uses to securely erase their data is also available. The problem is that it is not available to many public people, nor can it be used in any easy manner. The process is very long and time consuming. With a 40 GB hard drive, nearly 100% full, it can take up to 15 hours to do. The time also relies on how fast your hardware is. Verification of the data removal is also key to the success of the process.

DO
1. DO Submit your site to google
http://www.google.com/addurl/
2. DO Use Google webmaster tools
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
Google Webmaster Tools provides you with detailed reports about your pages’ visibility on Google. It allows you to see your inbound links, and diagnose problems.
You can also submit a sitemap from within webmaster tools.

3. DO Use Google Analytics
http://www.google.com/analytics
Google Analytics is probably the best tool I have for knowing what is working and what is not working with my Internet marketing. I recommend it to everyone. It is very easy to use, and shows you extremely detailed information about your websites visitors.

4. DO Use good and trusted web hosting company.
I was using Godaddy, and I was having problems because Godaddy was hosting porn sites on the same IP. If you have a steady, fast Internet connection with a static IP you should probably set up your own web host, or buy a dedicated server.
5. DO Use the W3 Validator to find errors in your website.
http://validator.w3.org
While having a validated website probably won’t increase your page rank, using the validator on your website will help you find errors that could be causing the robots problems.
6. DO Use the W3 Link Checker
http://validator.w3.org/checklink
This is a very usefull tool that will help you find bad links.
Make sure to fix bad links as soon as possible!
7. DO Have a relevant <title> tag
Use keywords in your title tag, that way the search engine bots will know what your page is about. Don’t stuff keywords!
An example of a good title is “Michiana Computer Repair – Niles, Michigan – 269.340.0000″
8. DO Have a relevant, short <description> tag
The description is the first 160 or so characters that someone sees under the title when searching.
An example of a good title would be something like this.
“Fast Affordable Guaranteed Computer Repairs – We fix all makes and models – Desktops and Laptops – Call us at 269.340.0000″
9. Make sure that your website has good keywords in the CONTENT of the website.
If you were to rank all of the words on your website, what would be the most used words?
Make sure that the name of your business and what you do are the most popular words in the CONTENT of your website.
A good way to help you visualize your content is to use a tag cloud generator, like www.tagcrowd.com.
Here is an example of the most used words on my website.
DON’T
1. Don’t Use the <meta name=”keywords” content=”#”> tag
Back in the 1990s people would spam the hell out of the keywords, most robots completely ignore this now.
2. Don’t Use the <meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow”> tag
This is probably the most useless tag, but you see it on just about every web page.
The idea behind this tag was it was suppost to tell dumb bots to index your site and check back. Google is going to crawl your website if they have the URL, this doesn’t increase your chances of being indexed at all.
3. Don’t Use the <meta name=”revisit-after” content=”12 hours”> tag
This tag tries to force the robots to revisit your site, this is ignored by Google and most other search engines.
4. Don’t Use black hat SEO techniques
Don’t use link farming sites, don’t stuff keywords.
Many times website owners who are new to link building simply don’t know what to expect when it comes to the timeframe for registering backlinks.
A backlink check will tell you how many incoming links are registered with a particular search engine, but it will not tell you how many backlinks you actually have.
Why is that? Well, it usually takes search engines months to re-evaluate incoming links, so if you do a backlink check today, there are likely links that are going into your site that haven’t yet been calculated in.
It would be nice if we could build links and then immediately have them show up in a backlink check, but that’s just not the way the it works.
As you’re building links to your site, here are some ways to keep track of your progress and build links effectively over time:
How To Check Your Backlinks
It’s incredibly easy to do a backlink check for your site. In Google, just type this into the search box (replacing the ‘yourwebsite.com’ part with your URL:
link:http://www.yourwebsite.com/
The results of that search will bring up a list of sites that are linking to your website address. In the upper right hand corner of Google you’ll be able to see a total count of your registered backlinks.
An even better tool is Yahoo Site Explorer https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com which provides a list of your registered backlinks and much more detailed information. Both of these backlink checking tools are free, so you can try each one out (or do both).
Why Are Links not showing up?
Let’s suppose you know that you’ve build links to your site, but nothing is showing up when you do a backlink check (frustrating, I know!).
There are some logical reasons why backlinks may not be showing up:
1) If your site is brand new, chances are it has not been indexed by google yet.
When you launch a new site it does not automatically appear in Google–it usually takes several months for Google to realize that the site is there and to index and categorize it.
Until your site is indexed, it will not show up in any search engine searches and no backlinks will register. You can even do a search for your exact site name or URL and nothing will show up.
If this is your situation, don’t worry! This waiting is something that all website owners go through, and Google, Yahoo and other search engines will eventually index your site.
It can sometimes take anywhere from 1-3 months for a new website to be indexed.
2. Not enough time has elapsed since building the links.
Even if your site is already indexed, it usually takes search engines several months (3-4) to recalculate the backlinks. So, if you have been doing article submissions for the past 2 months and you know for a fact that you have quite a few incoming links, those links will not show up in a backlink check for another month or two.
This doesn’t mean the links aren’t there, they are, the search engine just hasn’t registered them yet.
As you can see, one necessary component of any link building campaign is patience. There will be a time delay from when you build the link to when you see the actual link show up in backlink checks.
Keep in mind, this time delay doesn’t negativity impact your marketing; even if the links haven’t shown up yet, you should continue to market your website. Don’t hope for immediate results, you should be going for a long lasting impact on your search engine ranking for your keywords, rather than a brief traffic that goes drops down after a few days or weeks.
When you’re link building, you need to market consistently. Some great ways to market your forum are posting on forums and blogs with a good page rank or submitting articles to sites like articlesbase.com or ezinearticles.com
It takes time, but you will be rewarded in the long run, just keep working on getting links!
Always remember to stay away from black hat SEO techniques such as link farming, spamming, and keyword stuffing.

With Windows 7 released and currently making its way to shelves in time for the holiday season, we’ve taken this opportunity to upgrade our copy of the official Windows System Recovery Discs for compatibility with Windows 7.
With Windows 7 released and currently making its way to shelves in time for the holiday season, we’ve taken this opportunity to upgrade our copy of the official Windows System Recovery Discs for compatibility with Windows 7.
If you’re like most PC users, you probably got Windows 7 with a new PC or laptop. And if you’re like 99% of the population, you get your new machines from one of the major manufacturers. Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo; who all have one thing in common: they don’t give you a real Windows 7 installation disc with your purchase. Instead, they bundle what they call a “recovery disc” (that’s if you’re lucky – otherwise you’ll have a recovery partition instead) with your machine and leave it at that.
It doesn’t matter that you just paid a thousand dollars for a machine that comes with a valid Windows 7 license – your computer manufacturer just don’t want to spend the money (or perhaps take on the responsibility) of giving you a Windows 7 installation DVD to accompany your expensive purchase.
The problem is, with Windows 7, the installation media serves more than one purpose. It’s not just a way to get Windows installed, it’s also the only way of recovering a borked installation. The Windows 7 DVD has a complete “recovery center” that provides you with the option of recovering your system via automated recovery (searches for problems and attempts to fix them automatically), rolling-back to a system restore point, recovering a full PC backup, or accessing a command-line recovery console for advanced recovery purposes.
Thankfully, Microsoft seems to have realized this problem, and have thankfully made a recovery disc for this purpose. It contains the contents of the Windows 7 DVD’s “recovery center,” as we’ve come to refer to it. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows 7, and just serves as a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, one could re-create this installation media with freely-downloadable media from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK kit, a multi-gigabyte download); but it’s damn-decent of Microsoft to make this available to Windows’ users who might not be capable of creating such a thing on their own. You can make your own copy from Windows 7 Ultimate Edition, but now you have an easier alternative.
NeoSmart Technologies is hosting a copy of the Windows 7 Recovery Disc for your convenience. It’s a 143 MiB download (165 MiB for the 64-bit version), and in the standard ISO format, ready to burned directly to a CD or DVD. Don’t wait until your PC crashes to download a copy! Download and burn your recovery disc today, so that when the time comes, you’ll be ready!
What it does: The Windows 7 Recovery Disc can be used to access a system recovery menu, giving you options of using System Restore, Complete PC Backup, automated system repair, and a command-line prompt for manual advanced recovery.
What it doesn’t do: You cannot use the Windows 7 Recovery Disc to re-install Windows – it only fixes (not replaces!) Windows.
Why you need it: If you bought your PC from a major retailer, you didn’t get this CD with your hefty purchase.

Please note that the above links point to .torrent files. Torrent files are like a shortcut, they tell a download manager on your PC where to download the actual files from. Downloading large & important system files with torrents is highly recommended since torrents are protected against corrupt downloads and tend to be faster when well-shared.
(All torrents are currently being seeded by 100mpbs servers, they should be blazing fast).
You can download the Windows Vista recovery discs from here.
Instructions
Download the appropriate .torrent file from above that corresponds to the version of Windows 7 you have installed.
Download and run µTorrent.
Open the .torrent file you downloaded with µTorrent. (File -> Add Torrent)
Select where you want µTorrent to save the 7 Recovery Disc.
Wait for it to download.
Burn the .iso file that µTorrent downloaded to a CD using these instructions.
When you want to use the recovery center, put the CD in your drive and boot from it. This is usually done by pressing F8 at startup, or changing the boot drive order in the BIOS.
The server will be moved to Mr. Pleickhardt’s new datacenter and office on Friday the 30th of October, 2009.
The site and forum will be down for a few hours at most around midnight.
Pendrivelinux 2009 is a minimal remix based on Debian GNU/Linux. Pendrivelinux 2009 utilizes the KDE Kicker Panel along with coLinux (a port of the Linux Kernel) to allow Pendrivelinux 2009 to run within Windows as a Windows application. Once Pendrivelinux 2009 is launched, a Kicker Panel appears at the top of your Windows desktop. The KDE Kicker Panel provides a means to access and control Pendrivelinux. The rest of your Windows Operating System and desktop environment remain intact. Pendrivelinux 2009 will attempt to auto mount C: drive during startup for local access and sharing.
Pendrivelinux 2009 running within Windows:

Pendrivelinux 2009 basic essentials:
32bit Windows XP or Windows Vista Host (must have admin access)
4GB + Flash Drive or USB Device
Co-Pendrivelinux-KDE.exe
Running Pendrivelinux 2009 within Windows:
Download Pendrivelinux 2009 and double click the file to launch the executable (a Co-Pendrivelinux-KDE folder is created)
Move the entire Co-Pendrivelinux-KDE folder to your USB device
From the Co-Pendrivelinux-KDE folder, click Start-Pendrivelinux.bat to launch Pendrivelinux. (Windows vista users must right click and select Run as Administrator)
If all goes well, you should now be running Pendrivelinux 2009 from your Windows Desktop without ever rebooting.

Other Notes:
It is possible to lose the Pendrivelinux display, audio and other bridged connections to the Windows host on a pendrivelinux reboot. A quick solution is to reboot the Host PC and then Start Pendrivelinux again.
TrayRun is used to hide the Shell while running Pendrivelinux.
XMing is used for the X Window Server.
Pulseaudio is used for the Windows Sound Server proxy.
